We live in a world of extremes.
Heck, you and I live at the extremes.
Success or failure. Abundance or scarcity. Healthy or unhealthy. Presence or avoidance.
These extremes are popping up everywhere for me lately — the pinnacle of a limiting pattern I’ve faced a LOT these past years.
I’m either acting as my highest expression:
Eating well
Exercising
Working devotionally
Keeping my house clean
Feeling inspired
Creating playfully
Or revert to my lowest expression:
Binge watching TV
Ordering takeout too often
Leaving my house a mess
Spiralling in fear
Avoiding my work
We live at the extremes of our own expression.
I don’t know a lot of you here, but I feel as though I do. You have your own extremes too. Likeminded humans suffer from similar patterns, and like attracts like.
So before I go on: I see you and I feel you and I’m here with you.
So, how can you move forward if you’re constantly swinging to and fro? How can you achieve you dreams if you keep taking 5 steps forward and 10 steps back?
How can you nourish your growth if you’re also starving it?
This all feels very Scorpionic, which is no surprise because we just had a Full Moon in Scorpio yesterday. Scorpio hastens within us intensity, psychological dissection, and the throes of transformation, yet also carves intimate bonds, grows new skin, and surrenders to the mystery.
Your Scorpio expression feels those extremes at its depths. With Scorpio representing fixed water, think of it like the depths of the ocean or a frozen lake. Dark, mysterious, almost scary.
Because it’s:
scary to change
scary to surrender to the unknown
scary to know something other than the extremes, when it’s all you’ve been used to.
While the extremes push and pull you from either end of a spectrum, it seems we need a third option to hold us still.
Take the example of success and failure.
If I spend half my time feeling like a success and the other feeling like a failure, what identity might lie in the middle? (Because notice how the extremes often became our identities).
What intuitively came up is feeling like an experiment:
Trying, exploring, testing
Seeing outcomes as pure information that informs my next decision
Feeling empowered, creative, and most of all, curious
Experimenting goes beyond the binary of succeeding and failing. It holds me still and grounds me in the middle.
And the symbol that came up to represent this?
A triangle — the two bottom corners being success and failure and the top corner being experiment (pulling me up and out).
This triangle top or balance point of your extremes becomes your guiding light. Sort of like those fish with tendrils that light up the ocean’s depths.
So I leave you with this exercise to meet your own lit up fish!
Reflect on the two extremes you swing between the most
Write them down with a line joining them
Reflect on what lies in the middle, intuitively let a word or idea emerge
Write down that word on top of the other two, completing the triangle by drawing lines that join the others.
Take a step back and really feel this triangle top/guiding light pulling you up into a balanced expression (not high or low, just balanced)
Optional: Journal about this guiding light! Just as I did, write what that expression is like.Give it a name or a job title if you’d like (my “experiment” became my Creative Director).
I sincerely hope this post and exercise will support your next phase of growth.
And also, Happy Taurus season!
Until next time, curious one.
Here’s to living curiously.
Love,
Bry
I love this exercise. Balance is something I struggle with too - perhaps that’s why I am in your orbit ;) *like attracts like* - but this definitely helps shift my perspective on it. Hugs! 💓
