It’s an understatement to say that things change, all the time.
In fact, nature’s default state IS change. Always in a state of flux, evolving from one way to the next. “There are only two sure things in the world: death and taxes.” But even those are markers of change: from life to death, from income to taxes, from sure to unsure.
Turning to Goo
And within you, change is everpresent too. And yes, it can be incredibly difficult. There’s grief from that passage from life to death. There’s impatience for a change that’s yet to come. There’s the painstaking urge for a quick fix instead of waiting the course. There’s the seemingly indomitable fear of stepping out of your comfort zone. There’s the difficulty of changing habits. And there’s the (quite unnatural but not irrational) fear that you’ll always stay the same, even though you live and breath in a changing world.
I could go on, but I’m sure you can fill in any blanks here!
So change is hard. Yeah, it really is. Do you think the caterpillar enjoys turning to goo? No! But it’s wired evolutionarily to basically dissolve and put itself back together in an entirely new way. If no one taught you that a butterfly used to be a caterpillar, you’d find it difficult to believe they’re the same creature. How could something willingly undergo something so frustratingly, chaotically difficult?! Because it becomes a beautiful creature that can fly, of course. It just knows in it’s little bones it’ll be worth it. And so do you, I reckon.
Working with Change
If you feel like you’ve been on the edge of a big change, you’re not alone. So many people I’ve talked to this year have felt something along those lines. Like tectonic plates are shifting in our individual and collective realms. I mean we see A LOT changing all around us, but there’s a deeper, subtler change afoot. Deep in the roots.
And you’ve been undergoing great change this whole time! Take a moment to think back at who you were five years ago — I’m sure that version of you couldn’t imagine you being the same creature.
To work with change is to properly, intentionally let go of things to devotedly, assuredly make space for the new. How you deal with change dictates how you experience your life. In your healing journey, spiritual journey, self-development journey—whatever you want to call it—the more you deal with change with grace & gratitude & devotion, the more ease you experience as you change.
Figures at the Threshold
As I reflect on this concept of change, I’m reminded how important it is to work with the threshold. The threshold, to me, is the ability to hold space for change in it’s greater context: what happens before, during, and after change.
So let me introduce you to the three Figures of Change, in the hopes they can help you through this deeply-rooted shift.
Like any good story, there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end. Everything in nature follows this pattern too: Winter starts, holds it’s own, and then slowly ends to become Spring. In a female-identifying life, there is the archetypal journey of the Maiden, Mother, and Crone that follows this path too. The lesson here is to embrace the gifts of each season, so the next season has a solid foundation to build off & bloom.
Within the planes of your existence, there’s your Mind, Body, and Spirit. This is the Figure of three of higher consciousness. There’s the mental plane (noosphere), the physical plane (biosphere), and the energy plane (spirit…sphere?). Every experience you go through is processed through these three figures. The lesson here is to remember these three deeply affect each other, so change in one area will always catalyze a change in another.
Within the planes of life at large, there’s the experience of Past, Present, and Future. Without getting too Christmas Carol on you, the way you perceive your past and anticipate your future creates your experience of the present. If you hold limiting patterns you learned in the past, they will limit your present and hinder your future. Letting go of things of the past creates more space in the present for you to receive great possibilities in the future. The lesson here is zoom out, take a step back, and remember that your experience is part of a greater story at play (which brings us back to the first Figures hehe).
And these are the figures that guide you through the thresholds of change at every, EVERY turn.
So you see, a huge part of living a good life on this Earth is working with change, walking through thresholds, developing capacity to consciously evolve, embrace the flow of shifting things. The more you do this, the more you’ll feel ease, groundedness, and gratitude through your experience of life. And this is how you prime yourself to receive incredible and synchronistic opportunities that bring about changes you could never have even imagined. MAGIC.
And so, to anchor these teachings in just a little deeper, below you’ll find our Weekly Embodiment Practice entitled: The Place Between. A dear friend of mine requested that I provide a guided audio along with the written instructions, so I’ll start including that too!
BUT FIRST — I HAVE AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!!!
I’m running my first ever solo virtual gathering! And of course, it’s on theme here with all this talk of thresholds:
BREATHING DREAMS: An Aquarius to Pisces Ritual
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18 / 2:00pm - 3:30pm EST / $30 CAD
SACRED ASTROLOGY / GUIDED VISUALIZATION / COMMUNITY HEALING
Learning about each Zodiac sign individually holds great value, yet it’s the shift from one to another that holds the key to truly embracing transformation. In this first Ritual gathering of many, we’ll commune with the liminal space between Aquarius and Pisces — the realm of Breathing Dreams. Learn how these two signs pulse within you, and embrace what wisdom lies at their threshold. I’d love for you to join!
Guided audio version:
Walk around your house, feeling the energy of your space and letting that seep in.
Then, intuitively choose a doorway that is especially calling to you.
Stand right at the threshold, just noticing curiously if you’ve chooses to stand facing into a room or outwards.
Stand tall and hold your hands out at your sides.
Begin noticing your back body, feeling into the back of your head, neck, your back itself, the back of your legs.
Then, feel the space that’s behind you, feeling your back body exist within this greater space.
Then, shift your focus to your front body, noticing your face, your chest, your belly, the front of your legs, your feet.
Then, feel the space in front of you, noticing once again where you’re facing and not only looking out but feeling that space out front.
Then, notice your mid-body, the space between your front and back. Notice how it feels be aware of both the back, the front, and the middle all at once.
Allow yourself to breathe deeply here as you intentionally hold space for the threshold outside you and within you.
Then let this practice go, perhaps taking time to sit inside the space you were facing.
This practice will not only help you connect with your body, it will also heighten your physical awareness of spaces around you AND help you develop that “zoomed” out perspective that can be incredibly useful in times of change.
Please like this post if you enjoyed it, share it with a friend who might enjoy it, or leave a comment if you’d like to share any perspectives you hold about change! I’d love to connect with you (and your engagement brings a spark to my soul) 💕
Until next time…
